Another distinct feature is that the contributors are almost exclusively from the USA, with less than five of the 72 chapters authored by contributors from outside the USA, and therefore the book mainly reflects North American views on clinical practice. This is unavoidable in a book with such a large number of contributors (a total of 124). Although most of the chapters are well-written and quite engaging, the presentation style, the balance between the amount of plain text and illustrations as well as the quality and quantity of information provided varies. The book is organized in six parts covering major aspects of basic perinatal biology, obstetric imaging, fetal diagnosis and therapy, complications of pregnancy, maternal medical disorders and neonatal morbidity. Useful new features of this edition include online access to the content and a section on obstetric imaging complemented by online ultrasound clips and links to genetic disorder databases. The editors and publishers must be commended for having been able to produce a new edition of this book every fifth year since 1984. ![]() Considering rapidly improving scientific knowledge, technological progress, diagnostic possibilities and evidence base for the practice of maternal-fetal medicine, it is crucial to keep the text relevant and up-to-date. The 7th edition of this classic reference text in the subspecialty of Maternal-Fetal Medicine is now in print. ![]()
